Denny’s Wigwam is a jewel set in the heart of downtown Kanab right across the street from historic Parry’s Lodge.
Started in the early ’70s by 5th generation Kanabite, Denny Judd. Denny was highly involved with the movie industry when they were in town, starting as a bellhop at Parrys Lodge catering to the likes of Ronald Reagan and the Rat Pack.
John and I spent a wonderful afternoon with Denny and his wife learning great stories from Kanab and the movie heydays. Back when he wrangled livestock, was an extra in the cowboy movies, started the gift shop on the side of the gas station then grew it to include the restaurant outback (now the Iron Horse) and the years of entertaining literally bus loads of tourists with their Wild West shootouts, Chuckwagon dinners and audience participation movie making.
Dennys now boasts one of the largest gift shops in town, an Ice Cream parlor, and historic memorabilia. Plus you can head right out the back door to The Iron Horse courtyard and restaurant. There you will find some fun photo ops including the giant chair.
See my blog post on The Iron Horse saloon and restaurant Here.
BUT – the highlight of the whole shootin’ match has to be Soaring Southern Utah
Soaring Southern Utah is a virtual reality, 360 view, motion simulation experience inside Dennys Wigwam Gift Shop.
This 13-minute ride makes it possible to view SO much of what folks come to Southern Utah to see! Red rocks, majestic formations, delicate arches, and expansive views. Immerse yourself in the stunning scenery and catch a glimpse of all the places you wish you’d had time to visit.
We have taken plenty of people over to check it out. This virtual reality experience allows you to soar above the stunning scenery of Southern Utah.
It is like actually being in the helicopter that is traveling across this spectacular part of the world. 360 views mean the view changes as you move your head around. Look up to see the majestic blue sky and straight down to see the beautiful landscape sweep your feet. It is the coolest feeling ever!

The legacy of Denny’s Wigwam lives on
Denny and the Judd family are still active, respected members of Kanab’s community. Say Hi to Denny and Kathy’s Daughter Janette Peatross when you are at our outstanding Kane County visitors center. Janette is now assistant director of the Kane County Office of Tourism
Dennys Wigwam, The Iron Horse and Parrys Lodge are all part of Forever Resorts now, but the history and great service live on.
