Fall is my favorite time in Utah, it just doesn’t last long enough. Colors can be dramatic around our home in Central Utah, but fleeting.
So for favorite Fall activities, we head to Southern Utah where blue skies and the perfect hiking and running temperatures can last well into December.
Here is a list of some of our favorite Fall activities and hikes around Kanab Utah –
-
Rodeo
– Kanab has several Rodeo events! Following the pandemic shutdown of the finals in SL county, Kanab has scored the hosting privilege for the Rocky Mnt. Pro Rodeo finals this year and every year thru 2025.
-
Trailfest
– I am not even a runner, but we love when Grand Circle Trailfest comes to town. Everyone is invited to the city park during the 3 days that runners from around the world are invited to run in and around some of the most beautiful National Parks in the country. -
Rocktoberfest
– A mid-October street fair type event in Kanab that covers the whole downtown district. Live music, dance performances and Beer Garden are just some of the regulars for this outdoor event. Check out the downtown Halloween decorating contest and lots of special treats at the shops. This pandemic year included live streaming of all performances on Facebook for those wishing to enjoy the entertainment at home.
-
The Reel Deal Fishing Tournament
– 2 day fishing tournament the first weekend in Nov. Cash prizes totaling $5000. There is an adult and Jr. division so makes for a fun family activity! Tagged fish and total weights win. Held at Jackson Flat Reservoir 3 miles from Kanab.
-
Peek-a-Boo Slot Canyon
– Leave the crowds of Antelope Canyon behind! This slot canyon just 9 miles North of Kanab is awesome! Just don’t try and drive out there without high clearance 4WD or ATV’s. Deep sand! Here is my complete blog post on “must do” Peek-a-Boo.
-
The Mansard trail
– My favorite hiking trail. I’m pretty sure it will become one of yours. Here is my complete blog post of this lovely hike with a cool payoff at the destination. Dog friendly hike if you can give him a boost over one rock scramble.
-
Toadstools hike
– This is a little like visiting another planet. (Well I think so anyway… never actually having had visited another planet….) Cool balancing rocks and hoodoos, with unique colors and shapes. 40 miles East of Kanab. Get more info here.
There is a lot more to see and do in this spectacular little area of the West!
